Tottenham have been forced into
cancelling an upcoming Hall of Fame dinner following the news of Jimmy Greaves'
stroke on Sunday night.
The
75-year-old, who played for Tottenham between 1961 and 1970, was scheduled to
attend an event with his former team-mates as he was going to be inducted into
the club's Hall of Fame on Wednesday, May 13.
However
Spurs have released a statement to reveal the event has been cancelled due to
the seriousness of Greaves' condition.
Jimmy Greaves (right, with Paul Gascoigne) has suffered a severe stroke and is in intensive care
Greaves' wife Irene has admitted her husband's recovery from the stroke will be long and slow
Greaves (pictured with Sir Geoff Hurst in 2014) had recovered from a minor stroke in 2012
Greaves' career makes for impressive reading... he is fourth on England's all-time top scorers list
Tottenham wrote on their official website: 'On Wednesday, May 13, next week, the Club and its supporters were looking forward to the induction of the greatest goalscorer in our history into the Tottenham Hotspur Hall of Fame.
'The
dinner, which was to be attended by Jimmy and many of his former team mates,
has now been cancelled and a full refund will be made to those who have
reserved places for this long awaited event.
'The Club will discuss a future event with Jimmy and his family when appropriate and we shall keep fans updated on his condition. Everyone wishes Jimmy a speedy recovery.'
