Nigeria's only representative on the continent in 2015, Warri Wolves, are about to recreate the scenario that happened in 2011 when Sunshine Stars of Akure were the only Nigerian club on the continent and got to the semi-final stage of the CAF Champions League.
Though
yet to play in the group stage of the competition before now but Warri Wolves
chairman, Davidson Owumi, has expressed confidence that the Seasiders will
overcome the last hurdle to play in the group stage of the CAF Confederation
Cup.
Warri
Wolves were drawn to play AC Leopard of Congo in the CAFCC playoff with the
Nigerian club playing the first leg away from home.
Owumi,
who spoke immediately after the draw which was conducted by the CAF General
Secretary, Hicham El Amrani, said that the God that started the good work and
will not abandon them at this stage. Moreover, they will work hard to see that
they do not disappoint the Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, who
has been a driving force behind the team.
According
to a statement, Davidson Owumi said the team is ready to face anybody in the
continent and hopefully, they will overcome.
"We
are optimistic of qualifying for the group stage and that has been our dream.
Our God that has been helping us will not disappoint us and with the Governor
behind us like he has been doing, we will scale through. We will have to double
our effort this time around and we know, we will get there."Owumi
stated
Meanwhile,
Warri Wolves coach, Aigbogun said they have always prepared for any of the team
and the most important thing is for the boys to play well.
He said
he will have to find out now how they play and that the first leg away will
afford them time to prepare well and get a good result.
The
first leg comes up in Congo in the weekend of 15, 16 and 17th of this month
while the second leg comes up in Warri City Stadium on the 7th of
June, 2015.
