Stan Wawrinka, the eighth seed.
British No 1 Andy Murray
also reached the last eight at Roland Garros with a four set 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-2
defeat of another Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.
Murray now meets
evergreen Spaniard David Ferrer, who took just an hour and 50 minutes to
overcome U.S Open champion Marin Cilic 6-2 6-4 6-4 and he will need to find
another level to come through that.
Nonetheless he will
bring with him the experience of having reached the quarter finals or better in
his last seventeen Grand Slam events – a record of hugely impressive
consistency.
