Nigeria has three levels of mainstream football leagues. The
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is the highest level while Nigeia
National League (NNL) is the second tier and the Nigeria Nationwide League
(NNWL) is the third.
Fans
may have noticed that the NPFL has enjoyed significant improvement lately and
this current season has shown that with the series of results that have been
recorded. Although there is still a lot to be worked on, the obvious
improvements are a welcome development.
While
the NNL is still struggling to get this season started, the NNWL has taken a
bold step that has amazed domestic league observers. The Nationwide League have
unveiled a list of sponsors going into 2015 season which will
start on Thursday May 7. Plans have been revealed to air highlights
of league action after every week.
The
NNWL secretary, Olushola Ogunnowo, said talks are in an advanced stage to also
air some matches.
"We've
just spent 18 months and we've been able to get the interest of some corporate
bodies who will be involved in the league and talks are in advance stage also
air matches live," says Ogunnowo.
The
NNWL 2014/2015 season will start on Thursday May
7 with Wudil FC hosting Shekarau Babes at the Kano Pillars
Stadium in Kano, in the opening game of the season.
