Rangers International of Enugu resumed training on Tuesday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium after returning from Abuja on Sunday, where they had defeated Kwara United 3-2 to qualify for the quarterfinals of this year’s Federation Cup competition.
In a release
made available to Dream Sports Yarn by the club’s Media Officer, Foster Chime,
the team is now looking forward to the resumption of the second stanza of the
Nigeria Professional Football League when they will face Enyimba in a Week 20
reversed fixture on Sunday, August 2, 2015, in Aba.
“The team
has resumed training at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium after their return from
Abuja on Sunday”. “The players are in high spirit and are ready to start the
second stanza of the league on a bright note”.
Chime also
denied reports that the players refused to train because of the non-payment of
their outstanding salaries.
“I want to
use this opportunity to debunk claims in certain quarters that the players have
refused to return to training because of the non-payment of their salaries”. “That’s
not true because the rumour is part of the strategies of those I consider
enemies of the club and don’t want to see the club succeed”.
Meanwhile, Foster
also hinted that the club management paid a visit to the new Enugu Commissioner
of Sports, Charles Ndukwe, in his office on Monday to congratulate him on his
recent appointment.
He added
that during the visit the commissioner promised the management he will try his
best to make sure that the five months’ salary arrears being owed the players
are paid as soon as possible.
“Rangers
Management paid the new sports commissioner, Charles Ndukwe, a visit on Monday
to congratulate him on his recent appointment”.
“And, in the
meeting which the commissioner termed a family affair, he promised to make a
case to the state governor to facilitate the immediate payment of the five
months’ salary arrears being owed the players”, disclosed Foster.
