The High Performance Centre of
the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) was declared open by Confederation of
African Athletics (CAA) president, Hamad Malboum Kalkaba, in Port Harcourt,
Rivers state, today.
The centre which is the first
of its kind by any sport body in the country, is equipped with facilities found
in similar HPC worldwide also has a standard accommodation for athletes, while
those who are in school can take advantage of University of Port Harcourt to
acquire education at all levels.
It will be recall that President of the International
Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) had on February 8, 2013,
commissioned the center when he paid a 3-day working visit to Nigeria.
AFN president, Solomon Ogba, as
well as other continental and domestic track and field dignitaries were present
at the ceremony.
