Bayelsa United's bid to escape the drop to the Nigeria National
League got a boost after they secured a nervy 1-0 win over Wikki Tourist.
Struggling
Bayelsa United got off to a promising start in the fifth minute, when Buhari
Jaffar gave them a 1-0 lead much to the delight of caretaker boss George
Ederekumoh.
The
second half of the game saw the away side forcing their way in a bid to force
an equaliser but Paul Godwin in goal for the home team thrice denied them.
Jaffar
almost got a brace but the pacy forward failed to make the most of a clear
chance presented to him following a mix up in the back-line of Wikki Tourist.
Both
teams played out the last quarter of the game at a very slow pace, failing to
create chances that could have brought a change to the scoreline.
Bayelsa
United held on to pick up only their second win of the season, as Wikki Tourist
went home empty handed, ruing missed chances in the game.
