Reigning
African Woman Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, has promised Nigerians of a
good outing at the up-coming FIFA Women World Cup holding in Canada next month.
In a chat with Sports Yarn from the Super Falcons team base in Abuja on Tuesday,
Oshoala, assured that the team is ready to do the country proud and go one step
towards achieving a better position in the tournament.
“I can tell
you that we are ready to make a positive impact in the competition because my
teammates and I have resolved to be good representatives of our great nation
and continent”.
“Remember
that Nigeria has never gotten close to winning the trophy, but, we plan to
change that perception when the tournament kicks off” because psychologically we
have what it takes to surmount all obstacles.
Speaking on
her recent nomination for the BBC Woman Player of the Year award, the former
Rivers Angels star expressed satisfaction with the development and hoped to win
the award though she hinted that it will be a tough task because of the array
of the nominees for the award.
“I’m very
glad to be picked as one of the nominees for the award. Apart from me being the
personality involved, it’s good for the development of women soccer in Nigeria
and Africa. I pray and hope that I will win the award”.
Oshala who
also spoke on her transfer move to Liverpool Women FC says he is settling down well
at the club because of the level of co-operation which her teammates and
coaches have rendered to her.
“My move to
Liverpool Women team has brought a lot of positive development in my career”. “Since
I arrived there, my teammates as well as the coaches have been of immense help
to me”. “I must say that I have really settled down very well and looking into
the future with better performances with the team”, she concluded.
The Super
Falcons will travel out of the country on Tuesday night to intensify
preparations for the FIFA Women World Cup
