Caroline Wozniacki of
Denmark powered her way past Christina McHale of the United States to book her
place in the third round of the Madrid Open on Monday.
Fifth-seed
Wozniacki hit five aces and committed fewer unforced errors on the red clay to
beat the 22-year-old player from Teaneck, New Jersey 7-5, 6-0. Wozniacki
will meet Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the next round.
In
the men's competition, John Isner of the United States beat Adrian Mannarino of
France 7-6 (2), 6-4 to reach the second round.
The 16th-seeded Isner will
next play either Jeremy Chardy - another Frenchman - or Thomaz Bellucci of
Brazil.
Also, Sam Querrey of the
United States dropped the second set but rallied to beat 19-year-old qualifier
Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 - hitting 11 aces in the
process.
