Heather Watson was dumped out of
the Italian Open after a heavy 6-1 6-1 second-round defeat to 10th-seed Carla
Suarez Navarro in Rome.
The
writing was on the wall for the British women's number one after being broken
in the opening game of the match and she never recovered as the Spaniard
controlled proceedings, breaking twice more on her way to a quickfire first
set.
Watson
squandered two break points in the third game of the second set as she tried to
muster a response but the ground strokes of Suarez Navarro proved too much and
the world number 10 held her serve to take a 3-1 lead.
