TENNIS: Heather Watson crashes out of Italian Open following crushing second-round defeat by Carla Suarez Navarro in Rome

Heather Watson was dumped out of the Italian Open after a heavy 6-1 6-1 second-round defeat to 10th-seed Carla Suarez Navarro in Rome.
The writing was on the wall for the British women's number one after being broken in the opening game of the match and she never recovered as the Spaniard controlled proceedings, breaking twice more on her way to a quickfire first set.
Watson squandered two break points in the third game of the second set as she tried to muster a response but the ground strokes of Suarez Navarro proved too much and the world number 10 held her serve to take a 3-1 lead.

Suarez Navarro then flexed her muscles by rattling off the final three games to complete an emphatic victory and set up a third-round meeting with Eugenie Bouchard.

The defeat comes after Watson scored one of her best wins of the year on Monday as she swept aside world number 44 Roberta Vinci 6-3 6-1 in the opening round of the tournament.
