The Nevada State Athletic Commission today approved a “no tolerance” policy against fighters who fail tests for banned substances.
Beginning September 1, penalties
for steroid use will be severe. Suspensions will be three years, plus a hefty
fine. Repeat offenders will receive a four year ban.
Three strikes is a lifetime
ban. Fines range from 50% to 100% of the athlete’s purse. Users of marijuana,
diuretics or other substances face 18 month to two year suspensions and a fine
of 30-40% of their purse for first offenders.
Also results of fights will
now be changed to a loss rather than a no-decision after a failed test.
Fighters who don’t pay their fines will be suspended indefinitely, with the
suspension recognized in all 50 states.
