Former Nigeria
Football Federation’s Board member, Obinna Ogba, has disclosed that he is
already holding discussions with Coach Stephen
Keshi, on the possibility of organising a friendly between the Super Eagles and
Ebonyi United FC.
The newly elected Senator from Ebonyi state said this while answering questions on the popular sports programme, ‘The Saturday Sports Show” on Dream 92.5 Fm, Enugu, on Saturday.
“We are doing
everything possible to organize a friendly that will pitch Ebonyi United FC
against the Super Eagles”. “The match will also be part of Eagles preparation
for the 2017 Nations Cup qualifier against Chad next month”. ‘We want to make
sure that the match is played before the qualifier”. “This will also afford
soccer fans in the South-East to watch the Eagles play for the first time in
the Eastern region”.
Ogba, who is also the
Chairman of Ebonyi state Football Association says he will continue to help in
the development of football and other sports in his home state. He promised to work
with the new state governor, Dave Umahi, to achieve the objective.
“I want to assure all
Ebonyi youths that I will do my best to uplift the development of football and
other lesser sports in the state”. ‘The in-coming governor of the state, Dave
Umahi and myself will work together to make that happen because as you know,
the governor is a youth who love sports. And, I know he will give his all in
that regard”.
Meanwhile, Ogba
revealed that a football academy has been set up in Ebonyi state where budding
talents under the age bracket of 12 -17 years will be discovered. While calling
on talented youths who are interested in the programme to seize the opportunity
to excel in their career says, “As part of the plans to support sports
development in the state, a new football academy is already in place to help
discover new stars”.
‘This academy is only
for players in the age bracket of 12-17 years and will also look out to shun
cheats because any player that is beyond the age requirement will not be given
the chance to be part of the set-up”, stressed Ogba.
