Gabros FC of Nnewi proprietor, Chief Gabriel
Chukwuma has explained the reason behind the club’s change in name to Ifeanyi
Uba United FC, which he says was occasioned by the emergence of oil magnate,
Chief Ifeanyi Uba a leading shareholder in the club.
Chukwuma
says he believes his team will be the
one to beat in this year’s Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The
former vice-president of Nigeria Football Association (NFA) also says Chief Uba
is also fully involved in the control of Gabros Stadium in Nnewi.
“The
truth is that when we were promoted to the top division, I asked business
mogul, Ifeanyi Uba, to join me to make the club grow.
“After
our agreement, Uba became the majority shareholder in the club, and by virtue
of his new position, we had to rename the club Ifeanyi Uba FC.
“Apart
from that, we asked him to help us with three new buses and surprisingly he
gave us eight. So, there was no argument whether he should control the club
because he has done well for us.
“As
we speak, he is in control of the club. Since, Uba is now in charge of the club
we can’t also deny him the right to be part of the ownership of the stadium
because it must go together.
“We
are the team to beat this season because we are focused and we shall get to
where we want. If you see the team the way it is now, you will found out that
we have the players that can do the job.
“They
are young and determined to attain success. I know that people have been
talking about the change in name,” said Chukwuma, who also spoke on the area of
officiating in the Glo Premier League.
He appraised the role of referees this season
and added that away results which have been achieved in the past weeks show
that the arbiters are now doing better than before.
“I’m
happy that the referees are now doing better in matches that have been played
so far in the league. Unlike in the past we have had victories on away ground
and that makes the league a little bit interesting now,” Chukwuma stressed.
