The election
of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Enugu state chapter, took
place on Monday, May 11, 2015, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium after several
postponements.
The election
witnessed a large turn-out of sports writers who participated in the exercise to
choose their next leaders.
In the
results, incumbent chairman, Norbert Okolie of Mtn.com beat James Okparakaocha
of NTA by 10 votes while his opponent got seven votes.
The position
of secretary was retained by Ignatius Okpara of ExaminerOnline.com and Nma
Okonkwo of Radio Nigeria was voted as vice-chairman.
Also,
Frankie Omokhua of Dream Fm got the post of Treasurer while Nicholas Obisike of
News Agency of Nigeria picked the Financial Secretary position.
During the
swearing-in ceremony, SWAN National Secretary, Andrew Abah, who supervised by
the election called on the new officer to use their positions to make an impact
in the development of sports in the state and the country at large, since their
elevation is a call to service and humanity.
“I want to
congratulate each of you for your victories at the polls today”. “Now, that you
have been given this chance to make a difference, you must try to show exemplary
leadership that will breed positive impact in the growth of sports in this
state”.
“You all
should see yourselves as servant of the people and do all you can to
re-position your state. I wish you all the best three years of leadership” Abah
concluded.
Dignitaries
that were present during the election include, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, Lious Dilibe, Enugu state Football Association Chairman, Chidi Offor Okenwa
and SWAN ex-official member and Rangers Media Officer, Foster Chime.
